Description:
KRS ONE presents the Gospel of Hip Hop, an historical, philosophical, spiritual look at the scope of Hip Hop Kulture. Transcripts from the Meeting of the Minds conference with the legends and pioneers of Hip Hop and a full account of the presentation of the Declaration of Peace to the United Nations is also covered in depth. Discuss some of these and other related topics here.

Music - Rap & Hip Hop

Welcome to the beginning of a movement to keep us all educated on what is hot in the streets. The industry has turned a deaf ear to real hip hop. Real Hip Hop is still out there, you just need to know who, what, and where. Let us know what you know and we will do the same.

Born in Newark, NJ to an inspirational mother and four brothers. His father was not present to give him the manly guidance needed. Having four brothers who were into DJing and martial arts, gave him the male figures he needed to become who Double P is now. Double P was introduced to music from birth. His mother a listener of gospel, blues, R&B, and soul. His brothers would play records at home all the time. This is when he became familiar with his now idols like Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Al Green, Luther Vandross, and many more. Double P was fascinated by the music he heard and seeing his brothers prepare to DJ parties. From then on he knew music was what he wanted to do.

Deejay Fatfingaz (facebook)
Playing an instrument in any form is not an easy task, especially for a DJ. Skill and eye-hand coordination is key. The name FATFINGAZ exemplifies that very notion - hand control that equates the resulting sound. Either cutting it up with precise ease or mastering the attention of hundreds of people at one time, DJ Fatfingaz is the representation of a pure DJ. For the past 15 years and counting, the New York Native DJ Fatfingaz has immersed himself in practically every aspect of DJ Culture. Making a name for himself as a force in the industry, his foundation in technical art of party rocking is combined with a background in technical skills. As a turntablist, DJ Fatfingaz accolades are most known as the 1998-1999 R Method Champion, Placing top 6 at the 1999 DMC NYC, 3rd in the DMC NYC Regionals 2004, The 106 & Park BET W.O.W Champion 2005 & The Official host for both DMC USA & The GONG DJ BATTLE presented by G.M. Roc Raida of the X-ecutioners (X-MEN). Consequently his routine was featured in a DVD that arguably most would say was the best New York regional to date along with Fatfingaz both featured on the DMC USA 2008 & GONG DJ BATTLE 2006-2008.

Black August Annual Benefit Concert 2009: AUG 30, 8pm

HHAW2009_NYOIL
The Black August Hip Hop Project strives to promote human rights though supporting and influencing the global development of Hip Hop culture.  By facilitating exchanges between international communities where Hip Hop is a vital part of youth culture, we promote awareness about the social and political issues that affect our global communities.

Our vision is to bring culture and politics together and to allow them to naturally evolve into a unique Hip Hop consciousness that informs our collective struggle for a more just, equitable and human world.
Since August of 1998, Black August has held annual New York City events at Tramps, Bowery Ballroom, Synod Hall, BBKings, New Age Caberet, and the Brooklyn Café ---selling out eight shows! The project has featured artists such as Erykah Badu, David Banner, Common, dead prez, Fat Joe, the Roots, Jean Grae, Les Nubians, Chuck D, Gil Scott-Heron, Dave Chapelle, Tony Touch, Black Thought, The Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, La Bruha, Imani Uzuri, Jeru and the Coup.
Internationally, Black August has facilitated 8 international delegations of artists and activists to Cuba (1998, 1999, 2000, and 2003), South Africa (2001), Tanzania (2005), Brazil (2004, 2006) and to Venezuela (2007).
In addition to the shows, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement has held political education workshops with the participating artists and anyone interested in learning about the cultural and political issues at the core of Black August. The annual cultural events coupled with the political education workshops and international exchanges have helped reinvigorate the Black August tradition.
